We as Americans want to receive a high level of healthcare at a reasonable price. Healthcare in the U.S. can be a very costly thing and can cause a lot of stress to those of us who need higher levels of care than others. In order to ensure that we put ourselves in the best position possible to receive the care that we expect, we need to do some research about the healthcare insurance providers here in Alabama.
To start off this list, we have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. With this insurance provider, they have various tools on their website in order for you to judge whether or not this insurance is best for you based on your needs. For example, if you are an Alabamian who already has an Original Medicare or Medigap plan and you want to add drug coverage, they have a plan for you. You can choose from three different BlueRx plan options and decide what plan is best for you. With Blue Cross Blue Shield, they also offer an all-in-one Medicare Advantage plan at a $0 monthly premium, making it optimal for those people who want to combine low and fixed costs. This plan also includes doctor and hospital coverage with $0 Part A or B deductibles. Additionally, prescription, hearing, vision, and dental benefits are provided at no extra cost to you. This plan also works with 95% of Alabama doctors and 100% of hospitals, ensuring that you can go anywhere in Alabama and be covered. If you are looking for “peace of mind” plan, this one has got you covered.
Next, we have Medicare of Alabama. Original Medicare in Alabama is a program for people 65 and older. If you are someone who is under 65 but receives disability benefits or has a particular condition, you may be eligible for Medicare. Medicare, like many insurance plans, offers particular plans and packages. Original Medicare Part A will cover things like: hospitalization (inpatient care), nursing home or skills nursing facility, or hospice center. For Medicare Part B, it includes things like: outpatient care, doctor’s visits, medical equipment, as well as annual wellness exams. The only thing that Original Medicare doesn’t include is prescription drugs. If you feel as though it is necessary to include a prescription drug plan, you will need to enroll in Medicare Part D. Medicare Advantage also offers other plans like Medicare Part C and Medigap. Medicare Part C offers the same coverage as Original Medicare but may include things like: routine vision visits, routine dental visits, prescription drug coverage, as well as health and wellness programs. Medigap is a Medicare Supplement plan that covers the gaps in health-care costs. Many patients receive bills for healthcare gaps like deductibles and copayments. This plan only works with Original Medicare. Take these plans into consideration when choosing the best insurance plan for you. If there are aspects of Medicare that suits you and your needs, I encourage you to dive deeper and do additional research before making a decision.
The next insurance plan to cover is Alabama Medicaid. Alabama Medicaid offers a HIPP program, or, Health Insurance Premium Payment program. This plan allows for Medicaid to pay the health insurance premiums on behalf of individuals who have high cost medical conditions and can’t continue to pay their premiums. Reasons for not paying their health plan premiums may include job loss or medical leave, as well as if you are pregnant, have cancer or HIV, and/or have pre-term infants/infants with low birth weight. This plan eliminates most of the out-of-pocket fees that families on Medicaid have in regards to high healthcare costs, making it a great plan if these concerns apply to you.
The last insurance plan to discuss is AETNA Medicare Solutions. The overall goal of AENTA is to provide patients with added benefits that go beyond Original Medicare, that encompasses your overall health. AETNA provides Medicare Advantage plans like HMO, where you can choose a primary care physician to help you strategize your care amongst a network of hospitals and other doctors, ensuring the highest quality of care at the right time. With HMO-POS plans, the idea is to provide you with more flexibility with your options. With this type of plan, you have access to see out-of-network healthcare providers for particular services. Although you may pay more for these out-of-network providers, you have the option if need-be. They also offer PPO plays where you can visit any Medicare-approved doctor despite if they’re within network or not. As long as they accept AETNA’s plan terms, you have that freedom and choice over your healthcare plans. Additionally, they offer Dual Special Needs Plans (DSNP). A DSNP plan is available to those who have both Medicaid as well as Medicare and you can see if you qualify for this type of plan. AETNA has numerous different types of plans that may suit your needs best.
Furthermore, the state of Alabama is offering free visits for uninsured people who have possible corona virus symptoms.
Regardless of which insurance plan that you choose, make sure to do research on the plans and talk to representatives to ensure that your needs are met and your wallet isn’t screaming.
